On Friday, the top-seeded American team maintained its perfect record by winning both of its fourball matches, bringing their total to four straight victories.
A significant win came from Yealimi Noh and Angel Yin, who defeated Thailand`s Jeeno Thitikul and Pajaree Anannarukarn 5 and 4. This victory notably ended Thitikul`s impressive six-match unbeaten streak in the team competition. Later, Lilia Vu and Lauren Coughlin added another point for the U.S., triumphing over Chanettee Wannasaen and Jasmine Suwannapura 3 and 2 at the New Korea Country Club. Following Thursday`s double victory against China, the U.S. now leads Pool A with four points, guaranteeing their progression.
All eight participating teams are set to play a third round of fourball matches on Saturday.
In other Pool A action, Australia and China split their fourball contests. Minjee Lee and Stephanie Kyriacou secured a 2 and 1 win for Australia against Zhang Weiwei and Liu Yan, while China`s Yin Ruoning and Ruixin Liu edged out Australians Hannah Green and Grace Kim 1-up.
Pool B also saw a split, with Japan and Sweden each claiming a win. Miyu Yamashita and Rio Takeda defeated Madelene Sagstrom and Ingrid Lindblad 3 and 2 for Japan. Sweden responded with Maja Stark and Linn Grant beating Mao Saigo and Ayaka Furue 3 and 2.
The World team currently leads Pool B with three points, following two wins and two ties, accumulating 1.5 points against South Korea on Friday. A highlight was England`s Charley Hull, partnered with New Zealander Lydia Ko, sinking a crucial 12-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to secure a 1-up victory over Hyo Joo Kim and Hye-Jin Choi. Meanwhile, Jin Young Ko and Haeran Ryu tied their match against Wei-Ling Hsu of Taiwan and Canada`s Brooke Henderson. Hull humorously commented on her winning putt: «I managed to whack it, but I don`t want to whack it too hard because I don`t want to have a fiddler coming back. So just thought hole it and save the stress.»
The International Crown features seven national teams and a «rest of the world» team, organized into two pools based on women`s world rankings. The top two teams from each pool will advance to Sunday`s semifinals and final, which will comprise one foursomes (alternate shot) and two singles matches.
This event is part of the LPGA`s Asian swing, which recently saw Sei Young Kim win the BMW Ladies Championship in South Korea. The tour will continue in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, next week, concluding in Shiga, Japan, from November 6-9.
